Dan Mercer
Dan opened Ironbridge in 2017 after years in big-box gyms left him cold — too many members, no one coached. A former rugby player who came back from a bad knee, he built the gym he wished existed in Frome.
A small, coach-led gym in Frome where every class is capped at 8 people, every coach knows your name, and there's no 12-month contract waiting to trap you. Beginners and over-40s start here.
If the word "gym" makes you picture grunting strangers and a wall of mirrors, good — we built Ironbridge to be the opposite. Beginners, returners and the over-40s are who we do this for.
Every small-group session is genuinely coached — hands-on form checks, real attention, never a crowded queue for a squat rack. Eight people, one coach, zero free-for-all.
Brand new? Your first 6 weeks are a structured, guided programme so you're never thrown in the deep end. You'll learn the lifts properly, at your pace, with people in the same boat.
The owner-coach is on the floor, not in an office. Roll-monthly memberships, no 12-month lock-in, cancel anytime. A Frome business that answers its own phone.
Our full week, right here on the page. Spaces update live — when a class shows "2 left", it means 2 left.

Priya runs the Beginner Track and Move Well 40+ classes. She started as a nervous first-timer at Ironbridge herself in 2019, qualified two years later, and now there's no one better at making a brand-new lifter feel they belong.
Marcus handles the heavier strength and conditioning sessions. A former county sprinter, he's relentlessly upbeat and brilliant at pushing you that bit harder without ever making it feel intimidating. Members say his 6:30am sessions are worth the early alarm.
Not airbrushed physiques — Frome locals with jobs, families and busy weeks, lifting more than they thought they could.
"I hadn't done a press-up since school. Twelve weeks of the Beginner Track later and I deadlifted 80kg. Priya never once made me feel like the slow one in the room."0 → 80kg deadlift in 12 weeks
"At 52 I'd convinced myself my fitness days were behind me. Last month I did my first-ever pull-up. The whole class cheered. That's the kind of place this is."First pull-up at 52
"Three kids, full-time job — I needed something that fit a real week. The 6:30am classes and tap-to-book timetable mean I've trained 40 weeks straight. First time I've ever stuck at a gym."40 weeks consistent
"I came back after a back injury terrified of lifting. Dan rebuilt my confidence one session at a time. I'm now squatting bodyweight, pain-free. Worth every penny — and there's no contract trapping me."Back to bodyweight squats, pain-free
"I walked in expecting to be the oldest, slowest person there. Instead I found a Tuesday-morning crowd of people just like me. I've lost 9kg and I actually look forward to it."Down 9kg, training she enjoys
"The 8-person cap is the difference. At my old gym I queued 20 minutes for a rack. Here I get coached on every single rep. Added 25kg to my squat in a season."+25kg on his squat in a season
